Abstract
Dr Chin works in the Cavendish Laboratory where he studies optimisation of light-harvesting in photosynthesis from a physicist’s perspective. Understanding the intricate non-classical processes underlying biological phenomena can help optimise new nanotechnologies, as well as provide new insight into the novel physics of systems at the border of the quantum and classical worlds. This talk covers some of the emerging ideas about quantum effects in biology, including the way that strategies learnt from biological processes may be exploited to improve next-generation technologies, such as organic photovoltaic devices.
