During its first science run Advanced LIGO detected gravitational waves from 2 (possibly 3) binary black hole mergers. Here I will discuss the main results of these observations and some of the implications for astrophysics and fundamental physics. I will also provide an overview of the plans for the future concerning LIGO and other gravitational-wave instruments.

This talk is part of the Cavendish HEP Seminars series.
