I will give a brief account of some of the personal highlights of my career as a stochastic modeller, describing a few of the research topics on which I have worked and some of the collaborators from a wide range of fields who have influenced me along the way.

Valerie Isham is Professor of Probability and Statistics at University College London. She served as President of the Royal Statistical Society from 2011-2012 and currently chairs the Scientific Steering Committee of the Isaac Newton Institute, as well as the Biometrika Board of Trustees. Her research interests lie in applied probability: broadly, the development and application of stochastic models.
