Abstract

This interactive workshop will introduce structured methods for innovation, providing practical experience in generating novel ideas, discovering fresh perspectives, engaging with others, and working together in making ideas a reality. This workshop will make use of established methods in innovation, including Design Thinking and the Invention Cycle (T. Seelig). Techniques will be practiced in small groups. Methods for scaling up these techniques to engage large crowds in the innovation process will be provided.

The one-day workshop will provide details and engagement in key innovation areas including:

• Innovation Overview – Skills, Mindset & Principles
• Creativity & Imagination – Define problems & experiment with solutions
• Innovation – Focus and Reframe to arrive at a novel solution
• Team Inspiration & Implementation – Make ideas a reality
• Open innovation – use of crowdsourcing software to scale up innovation
• Review & Open Discussion

The workshop will be in two parts (10.00am-1.00pm, 2.15-5.00pm), with lunchtime options in a choice of local cafés (and space for bringing your own). The workshop is aimed at those who wish to engage a small team or a large crowd in structured innovation, in order to generate novel ideas and together make them a reality. This workshop will be of particular interest to those working with large numbers (100s-1,000s) of students, staff, or alumni.

N.B.: The day is free for members of the University of Cambridge, and their invited guests. Lunch and refreshments will be available nearby for purchase.
