Abstract
Observational and randomised studies have established the importance of adiposity, height, diabetes, and elevated blood pressure and lipids as risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), and these risk factors are targets of population-based and individual interventions.
At this seminar Professor Majid Ezzati, Chair in Global Environmental Health, Faculty of Medicine, School of Public Health, Imperial College London, will present the work of Non-Communicable Disease Risk Factor Collaboration (NCD-RisC www.ncdrisc.org). This global network of health scientists provides rigorous estimates of NCD risk factors by pooling population-based data from around the world. The presentation will have particular focus on whether the worldwide rise in adiposity is associated with an increase in other major CVD risks, and the implications for population health.
Chaired by Professor Nick Wareham, Director of the MRC Epidemiology Unit and co-Director of the Institute of Metabolic Science.
