Abstract
Join the CGHR Salon this Thursday for a discussion on the UK Parliament, war and Syria. The discussion will be led by Dr Hayley Hooper and Dr Veronika Fikfak. In their forthcoming book, they shed light on the way successive Governments have limited the engagement of Parliament in the decision to ‘go to war’ by strategic use of procedural motions, by selective timing of parliamentary engagement, and by monopolising secrecy under the guise of a range of necessity arguments. This week’s discussion focuses on how the Parliament and the Government have made decisions regarding the UK’s involvement in the on-going conflict in Syria.
For background, check out this video of Dr Hooper and Dr Fikfak discussing this topic in November of 2015: https://www.law.cam.ac.uk/press/news/2015/11/law-focus-parliaments-role-voting-syrian-conflict-veronika-fikfak-and-hayley-j.
