End point of the ultraspinning instability and weak cosmic censorship

Abstract
In this talk, I will present recent numerical results on the end point of the ultraspinning instability of Myers-Perry black holes in 6 dimensions. This instability gives rise to a sequence of concentric rings connected by ever thinner segments of black membrane. The black hole pinches off in finite asymptotic time, resulting in a violation of weak cosmic censorship in higher dimensional asymptotically flat spacetimes. While the self-similar nature observed in the instability of black strings is lost in the asymptotically flat setting, the approach to pinch-off very closely follows a scaling law with a universal factor.
