Host: Marco Geymonat

The positioning of the mitotic spindle along the mother-daughter cell polarity axis is critical for the outcome of cell division in asymmetrically dividing budding yeast cells. A surveillance mechanism, known as the spindle position checkpoint (SPOC), senses defects in spindle orientation thereby inhibiting mitotic exit and cytokinesis. I will discuss our currently understanding of SPOC activation and how temporal and compartment-specific regulatory networks determine mitotic exit in this system.
