Abstract
In this talk I will discuss the influence of inner layer processes on the entrainment in an idealised night-time atmospheric boundary layer (Jonker et al.; 2013) by extending the entrainment decomposition method of Van Reeuwijk and Craske (2015) to wall-bounded flows. I will then discuss the interaction between an urban environment and the overlying atmosphere, particularly focusing on the effect of vegetation on the local urban microclimate. It turns out that the temperature reduction and the evaporative flux are linearly related, and we explain theoretically why this is the case.
