Abstract
Join us this Thursday 27 April for our first CGHR salon of Easter Term, led by Cerianne Robertson, an MPhil candidate in the Department of Sociology.
Beginning in 2012, activists in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil published annual dossiers of human rights violations linked to the city’s preparations for the 2016 Olympics. Cerianne’s research examines the opportunities, challenges, and strategies related to these activists’ efforts to use the Olympic ‘media event’ to challenge government and IOC claims that the ‘Olympic project’ was transforming the city for the better. In particular, this research explores activist understandings of the values of documentation and critical narratives.
