Abstract
Our daily lives are full of rich, complex experiences, only few of which are engraved in our minds. What determines which experiences will be transformed into long-lasting memories? How are these memories represented in the brain? In what way does sleep modulate our memories? Can we learn in our sleep? We will discuss behavioural and neuroimaging techniques used to elucidate what a memory is and how it is created, both in wakefulness and in sleep.
