Abstract
Does the prenatal environment contribute to subsequent behavioural problems in childhood? This talk critically explores biologically plausible mechanisms and presents epidemiological studies examining evidence for in-utero programming of mental health. Examples are drawn from work on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) symptoms, and obesity. Further, I present my latest research endeavours. The aim is to investigate whether factors related to maternal lifestyle during pregnancy are causal and thus have public health significance.
