Abstract
This paper will look at creoles who fled the French and Spanish sides of Hispañiola and their migrations during and after the Haitian Revolution. Both groups were displaced during the slave uprising: the French fleeing their plantations, and the Spanish leaving in anticipation of a possible Haitian occupation. However, both groups are overlooked in the historiography, yet their movements would prove to be a vital force in the social and economic reconfiguration of the Caribbean. This paper will assess their impact as well as consider the wider colonial anxieties that were revealed by the way they were treated.
