Abstract
About the talk: The talk will examine the institutional and governance challenges facing UK regions in the post-Brexit context. It will examine the different tensions within the UK regarding trade promotion, economic development and planning and it will compare the relationships between the national and local policy narrativesĀ and the underlying economic mechanismsĀ on which the shift towards a more place basedĀ industrial strategy is based.Ā Ā
About the speaker: Philip McCann holds the Chair in Urban and Regional Economics in Sheffield University Management School, and is also the Tagliaferri Research Fellow in the Department of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge 2015-2018. He is one of the worldās most highly cited scholars in urban and regional economics and his research has won academic awards in several countries. Philip has also previously been a Special Adviser to two different EU Commissioners for Regional Policy, and has also advised four OECD directorates, the European Investment Bank, and government bodies in the UK and New Zealand.
