Improving Waterflood Oil Recovery: Understanding the Habitat and Targetting Recovery of Remaining Oil
- π€ Speaker: Cliff Black, BP Senior Advisor Waterflood Management & IOR

Abstract
The presentation will start by looking at the world’s conventional oil demand and supply picture for the next 25 years in order to identify the contribution expected from the application of Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Technologies. It will then discuss strategies for understanding the habitat of remaining oil after a conventional waterflood. These include predictive reservoir modelling and enhanced surveillance to measure field performance. The presentation will conclude with a summary of 2 BP led technologies that target opportunities to improve Sweep Efficiency and Displacement Efficiency. Both of the technologies started life as conversations between BP and academia! They are now being appliced in BP operations around the world.
