Abstract
The salient characteristics of mobile wireless networks pose challenging research questions on event-based systems.
In this talk, I will discuss the implications of these salient characteristics on composite event detection and derive a number of key requirements. I will then introduce a model for context-dependent event detection on mobile nodes that implements a simple degree of context-awareness. Key objectives are to minimise wireless communication between nodes as well as computational overhead on nodes in order to be compatible with strict limitations on battery lifetime. Focus of my work are networks employing limited devices with differing specifications in highly mobile environments, such as certain types of wireless sensor networks.
