Abstract
I will discuss the role of scalar fields in late universe cosmology, and their connections to the problems of dark energy and dark matter. Introducing these light scalars also introduces problematic long range fifth forces. I will describe how these fields can be screened by non-linearities, ensuring that they are compatible with existing searches, in a radiatively stable way. Finally I will discuss the prospects for detecting these scalars in terrestrial cold atoms experiments.
