Abstract
This year marks the 50th anniversary of space exploration. Prof Pillinger will review the amazing progress that has been made during this period, and the challenges that remain.
His research interests at the Planetary and Space Sciences Research Institute (PSSRI) of the Open University include the application of stable isotope and organic analysis to planetary, geological and environmental problems using laboratory and space based studies. Prof Pillinger is well known in the media for his involvement in the ill-fated Beagle 2 mission, a British probe that formed part of the European Space Agency’s 2003 Mars Express mission.
Suitable for GCSE students and families. Free admission. N.B. No tickets – so come early to get a good seat. Doors open at 18:30.
