- π€ Speaker: Professor Angela Clow, Department of Psychology, University of Westminster

Abstract
Angela will briefly review evidence that psychological state has an effect upon health and go on to explore whether cortisol may be a marker for, and a mediator of, this ‘mind-body’ link. Cortisol is an essential hormone that performs a wide range of housekeeping tasks to regulate physiological functioning across day and night. However cortisol is also the body’s main stress response hormone: these dual roles can lead to problems during exposure to chronic stress. Evidence will be presented for dysregulated diurnal patterns of cortisol secretion in relation to a range of individual differences and ill health.
