Magnetospheric Radio Emission from Extrasolar Planets

Abstract
Extrasolar planets are expected to emit low-frequency radio waves. The detection of this emission will allow us new insights into some properties of extrasolar planets that will be hard to determine by other means.
I will review the basic processes for the radio emission, and how the level of emission scales with the very wide range of planetary and stellar parameters expected for extrasolar planets. I will also review the various low frequency searches that have been made for extrasolar planets with the VLA and GMRT , and discuss the future for the subject with the arrival of LOFAR .
