How to Share Research Data + Tour of CERN with Higgs Boson Physicist
- ๐ค Speaker: Jenny Grant Rankin and Stephen Goldfarb
- ๐ Date & Time: Wednesday 18 October 2017, 18:30 - 20:00
- ๐ Venue: Postdoc Centre, 16 Mill Lane
Abstract
If research findings are to impact the world, they need to be shared effectively. Dr. Rankin will share her findings from a quantitative study and a meta-study of over 300 studies that she synthesized as a set of data reporting standards shown to increase an audienceโs understanding of viewed data by up to 436%. Others can follow these standards to best share and display research findings and other data. Dr. Goldfarb exemplifies how scientists can proactively share research findings with different audiences. Dr. Goldfarb will visit us virtually from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva. He will take us on a virtual tour of the facilities where he and colleagues used the Large Hadron Collider to smash particles together and discover โ for the first time โ proof of the Higgs boson, an elementary particle in the Standard Model of particle physics.
