Abstract
Let p be any prime and n be any natural number. Let \chi be a p’-irreducible character of the symmetric group S_n, that is, whose degree is coprime to p. We bound the number of p’-irreducible constituents of the restriction of \chi to S_{n-1}, and also the number of such constituents in the induction of \chi to S_{n+1}. This generalizes work of Ayyer, Prasad and Spallone for the prime p=2. This is joint work with E. Giannelli and S. Martin.
