Most stars form in groups, or clusters, where the stellar density exceeds the density of the Milky Way disc by several orders of magnitude. In these dense environments interactions between stars are common and can affect both protoplanetary discs and the orbits of fledgling planetary systems. In this talk I will describe how the the star-forming environment has both a negative and a positive impact on the formation and evolution of planetary systems.
