Parameterisations of Heterogeneous Atmospheric Reactions: Recent work of the IUPAC Kinetics Data Evaluation Panel
- 👤 Speaker: Dr. R. A. Cox, CAS, Chairman, The IUPAC Subcommittee for Kinetics Data Evaluation for Atmospheric Chemistry

- 📍 Venue: Unilever Lecture Theatre, Department of Chemistry
Abstract
The IUPAC Subcommittee for Kinetics Data Evaluation for Atmospheric Chemistry have extended the scope of the treatment of evaluated data for heterogeneous reactions on their website: http://www.iupac-kinetic.ch.cam.ac.uk/. The Subcommittee are now in the process of preparing and presenting data sheets in which the relevant data for heterogeneous processes are evaluated and recommendations are made for parameters describing the kinetics of these processes under atmospheric conditions.
A detailed introduction to heterogeneous reactions has been prepared by members of the Subcommittee and is available on the website as a guide to the data sheets. This document provides background information on the models and definitions of the parameters used in these evaluations. It also provides the rationale for the organisation of the material presented. Summary sheets containing the recommended parameters are also present.
Some of the new data relating to uptake and reaction on ice surfaces of species involved in the chemistry of ozone in the Upper Tropospher and lower stratosphere will be presented.
