Abstract
Nanostructures show interesting electromagnetic properties compared to macroscopic materials; one such phenomenon is the establishment of surface plasmons in metal particles and structures. While these properties have been used for centuries and understood for decades modern TEM techniques allow an unprecedented view into such structures and can probe the electromagnetic forces in action. In this study both conventional TEM imaging and energy dispersive techniques have been used to characterise the synthesis of metal-dielectric nanostructures and the surface plasmon properties of both individual and interacting particles.
