Abstract
Skills Talk: Programming ATMEL Microcontrollers, Simon Hay
In this skills talk, I will discuss my experiences with the ATMEL range of microcontrollers and offer some tips on how best to take advantage of them in your research. The talk will focus on getting started with hardware and microcontroller programming, in what circumstances they can be useful and some common pitfalls to avoid.
Research Talk: Orthogonal Distributed Carrier Multiple Access in Wireless Networks, Bogdan Roman
With the rapid growth of Wireless LAN capability for mobile devices such as laptops, handhelds, cell phones and vehicles, the size and mobility levels of wireless LANs increase, having a direct impact on scalability and performance. This talk will present a novel strategy for accessing the wireless medium, based on a node elimination algorithm using unmodulated bursts of energy, that scales with the network size and provides considerable gains in network throughput compared to existing and proposed solutions. Several extensions will be presented as well, such as reliable Quality of Service and extended applicability in distributed leader election and collaborative networks.
