Together with colleagues at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne, we focus on developing novel inorganic solar cell technologies. In particular, we have made recent progress with two very different technologies: high performance InAs/GaAs quantum dot solar cells for concentrating photovoltaics and solution processed Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 nanoparticle inks. The former is a collaboration with the Cavendish Laboratory (SP Group), NPL and Nanyang Technological University while the latter is a core component of our involvement in the EPSRC -funded North East Centre for Energy Materials. In this talk, I will provide an overview of the technologies, scientific challenges and our contribution to their development.
