Abstract
I plan to talk about one algebraic approach to counting curves in a variety, namely Gromov-Witten theory. Then there will be some discussion of the quantum cohomology ring and the other extra structure hidden in these invariants. If time permits I will try and mention how this theory relates to the Floer theory described last week.
