Abstract

Robin Holloway will discuss his recent composition ‘Fourth Concerto for Orchestra’, inspired by the medieval epic poem ‘Piers Plowman’, which premiered in San Francisco in February last year with great success.

Robin is a renowned English Composer, whose work covers many genres. He is also a prolific journalist and broadcaster, writing a monthly column in the ‘Spectator’. Robin started his musical career as a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral, graduated in Music at King’s College Cambridge, studying with Alexander Goehr. He completed his doctorate on Debussy and Wagner at New College Oxford and did a Studentship and Research Fellowship at Caius College, Cambridge. He completed an assistant and then full Lectureship at Cambridge Music Faculty, a Readership in Musical Composition and is now a Professor in Musical Composition.
