Abstract
Psychedelic compounds such as psilocybin (magic mushrooms) and DMT (ayahuasca) have been used for hundreds of years by certain cultures and are now being re-investgiated for their therapeutic potential. This talk will address the basic pharmacology of psychedelics, plus their effects on brain dynamics and behaviour. A model is presented on how psychedelics alter brain function to alter mental function and behaviour, and how this may render them therapeutically and experimentally useful.
