After his parentsâ sudden death, Jacob travels to another country to take care of his inheritance, which turns out to be a dream house with a pool in a picturesque location. And a turtle. Uninterested in any form of social interaction, Jacob spends his days lounging on a deck chair, depleting the considerable stock of alcohol that he finds in the house. But Jacobâs peaceful, apathetic existence is turned upside down when he meets Matteo, a somewhat annoying neighbour â a typical southerner and, of course, his total opposite. Jacob is suddenly forced out of his comfort zone as he becomes increasingly involved in a world of people and emotion. May life be more than eating, drinking, and sleeping?
»Dusky Paradise« is a film about the potential of life. Tackling themes of grief, heartbreak, and feeling lost, the warm cinematography and touching humour of these troubled characters offer a stirring look at the importance of human relationships.
The film was nominated for numerous international awards including the Discovery Award for »Best Debut Feature« at the Raindance Film Festival. It won, amongst others, the National Film Award UK as the »Best Foreign Film« and the Evolutionary Island Award at the Evolution International Film Festival.
âPersonal, stylish, extraordinary performances⊠Bravo!â â Academy Award and Palme dâor winner Volker Schlöndorff
âA silent magic develops as the film slowly draws you into its spell.â â Babette Schröder, producer of Academy Award winning »The Counterfeiters«
âThis is everything you could ever want from an indie film and more.â â Raindance Film Festival
