Abstract

We are extremely excited to introduce as our third speaker of the term Professor Sir Paul Nurse, Director of the Francis Crick Institute and one of the UK’s most pre-eminent scientists.

Professor Nurse was awarded the 2001 Nobel Prize for his research on the control of the cell division cycle, specifically the discovery of cyclins and cyclin-dependent-kinases. In 2010, Professor Nurse succeeded Lord Martin Rees to become President of the Royal Society, and in 2011 he became the inaugural Director and Chief Executive of the Francis Crick Institute, where he continues to research on the cell cycle. Professor Nurse has been awarded over 60 honorary degrees, and maintains a role at the heart of the public understanding of science.

This talk is promises to be fascinating for all audiences, and is absolutely not to be missed for anyone with an interest in cell biology.
