Abstract
Eleanor Sherwen, Development Engineer for the Brompton Electric, talks about the use of scientific skillsets in a design engineer’s career, and gives an insight into the design and development processes involved in manufacturing an iconic folding bicycle, with specific focus on the forthcoming electric-assisted model.
Eleanor has worked for Brompton Bicycle Ltd, the UK’s largest bicycle manufacturer, for four years. Her current key focus is developing the algorithm and behaviour of the Brompton Electric, but prior to this her background has been mechanical design engineering for a variety of products including ruggedized LiDAR systems, dental equipment, and of course bicycles. She loves cycle touring, scifi, and tea.
