Testing Gravity with Gravitational Waves

Abstract
The first direct detections of gravitational waves (GWs) from merging binary systems have provided a new set of tools for testing the laws of gravity. I’ll explain the rapid progress in testing cosmological deviations from GR using GWs, and look forwards to what can be achieved in a future ‘observatory era’ of GW detection. In particular, the luminosity distance of GW sources can help to bound the remaining parameter space of modified gravity theories.
