Abstract
Schizophrenia is defined by psychosis but also presents a range of other non-psychotic phenomena including behavioural, physical and mental symptoms. Medication is effective for psychosis but might also cause, unmask or worsen phenomena that resemble schizophrenia’s non-psychotic symptoms. After decades of antipsychotic treatment, distinguishing between the primary and secondary phenomena is crucial for patient’s effective treatment and might also help in our understanding of the illness itself. Here, I will explain our recent work on the description, understanding and management of some of the antipsychotic-induced symptoms.
