Abstract
We are interested in understanding how spatial structure could shape the dynamics of an influenza epidemic in the UK. Using designated human boundaries such as counties or districts, it is possible to construct a metapopulation framework containing subpopulations coupled to reflect information on commuter movements from the 2001 UK Census.
It will be discussed how this type of model can be implemented to examine the impact of factors such as a disease’s starting point, and how we can find the location of subpopulations that act as foci or reservoirs for infection.
