Abstract
Sea ice is an important component of the climate system and an adequate representation of sea ice is crucial for modelling changes to the Earth’s climate. In this talk we provide an overview of the way sea ice models are used for large-scale climate modelling and discuss several challenges for the use, evaluation, and development of sea ice model components used this way – including internal variability, coupled feedbacks, and remote drivers.
