Abstract
Deepak is currently a second year PhD candidate in the computational design group within the Engineering Design Centre (EDC).
Deepak’s research in the EDC focuses on ‘A Flexible Integrated System for the Conceptual Design of Space Systems’. His research focuses on three key areas in the preliminary design of complex multidisciplinary systems (Space systems, automobiles, aircraft) which are often challenging in practice. First, formalising a methodology that brings overall “System flexibility” in the preliminary designs. Second, demonstrating “System optimisation” offers better performance measures in the preliminary designs by multi-objective optimisation algorithms. Third, addressing the “System decomposition” issues through this integrated design approach, enabling better trade-offs between the competing performance measures to be identified.
This presentation describes the development of a flexible integrated system and how the methodology chosen for this research can be particularly beneficial to the Decision makers/Stake holders/Systems engineer in the conceptual design phase of the mission life-cycle. It will also cover two space mission case studies selected for validating his work.
