Ethernet Evolution from 1990 to Today

This talk will provide an overview of Ethernet evolution from the “big yellow Ethernet” of the late 1980s to today. The talk is in 3 sections. The first section provides a chronological outline of Ethernet technology evolution. The second section discusses how and why modern Carrier Ethernet is used in Metropolitan Area Networks. The last section provides diagrams of typical Carrier Ethernet MAN designs, so that one can see how the various pieces fit together in a typical deployment today. Presentation does not assume the audience is deeply familiar Ethernet. Please note well that this will be a technology/standards talk, not a sales/marketing/product talk.
