Abstract
During the COVID -19 pandemic, it has been crucial understand the characteristics of transmission and the implications for control. Epidemiology and mathematical modelling has played a central role in developing this understanding, from estimating key early information such as disease severity, extent of missed infections and properties of new variants, to evaluating the potential effectiveness of control measures, including contact tracing and social distancing measures. This talk will give an overview of the analysis conducted during COVID -19, including contributions to advisory groups in the UK, and reflections on how to ensure pandemic research is useful and relevant in real-time.
