Abstract
I will discuss correlation experiments in settings where systems are described in terms of their observable algebras, as is often the case in QFTs or statistical mechanics with infinite degrees of freedom. Here, inequivalent ways of model bipartite systems exist (known as the “tensor product model” and the more general “commuting operator framework”). To study the question in the title, we generalise the concept of the Schmidt rank to bipartite states in the commuting operator framework. I will explain operational and algebraical definitions of the Schmidt rank. If time permits I will discuss the example of ground states on infinite 1d spin chains which are viewed as bipartite state for the left and right half chains.
