Abstract
I will start with motivations for field theory in 2+1 dimensions, among which one can find relativistic-like effective descriptions of planar antiferromagnets. I will then explain how and why supersymmetry can be elevated from N=1 to N=2, and will use these results to describe an effective description of high-Tc superconductivity in terms of composite degrees of freedom, made of spinons and holons.
