Abstract
In psychometrics, concepts such as nominal, ordinal and interval scaling, mean, medium, mode, histogram, cumulative histogram, standard deviation and normal distribution, not only need to be fully understood but also applied in real world settings. They form the fundamental building blocks for concepts such as error of measurement, accuracy of estimation, treatment effectiveness, and the relationship between a score and what it purports to measure. The classical psychometric parameters that assess reliability, validity, standardisation and equivalence continue to play a crucial role in the development and understanding of assessment. At the end of this session you should know how to assess the reliability and validity of an assessment, and the impact on these assessments of complications such as range restriction and attenuation.
