Is it a superconductor or is it a black hole?

Abstract
As an application of gauge gravity duality it has been proposed that a transition between black holes in AdS carrying a certain kind of scalar hair and black holes without such hair could be useful in describing the superconducting instabilities of strongly correlated quantum critical theories in condensed matter physics (I will define what these are in my talk). This suggestion has sparked a fair amount of recent work and I will aim to give an overview of the subject with a view on so-called top-down realisations, which embed the basic models into an M-theoretic framework, often with interesting physical consequences in particular in the low-temperature regime of the quantum-critical phase diagram.
