Abstract
Scientific funding by the U.K., European Commission and U.S. funding bodies emphasises more than ever that engineers and scientists are required to focus their work to positively drive economic growth by facing the challenges of scaling emerging technologies and bridging the “valley of death”.
Recent fundamental research will be presented in polymeric microstructure control, self-assembled hydrogel formation and inkjet research and an approach is discussed to combine scientific challenges with a broader view of environment-relevant supply chain and policy drivers.
