Abstract
Increasing limit of detection is a key aspect for Acoustic Wave Sensors, a competitive technology for biosensing applications. Different aspects should be taken into account to reach this goal. High frequency resonators in combination with an appropriate platform which allows a careful control of different aspects involved in a biosensor experiment will permit to increase the limit of detection by reducing the noise and taking advantage of the increasing sensitivity of the sensor. In this presentation recent results on a biosensor application using different acoustic technologies are presented and compared with other techniques like SPR and ELISA . A research platform was developed with the purpose of comparing the different acoustic technologies under the same conditions. Classical QCM , HFFQCM and Love Wave acoustic resonators were compared and results have shown that high resolution QCM techniques can compete with those established techniques. The presentation shows the efforts made in the last 15 years by the group coordinated by Prof. Antonio Arnau Vives from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and his recent spin-off company Advanced Wave Sensors (AWSensors).
