Abstract
Yuliya Yurchenko is a Lecturer in International Business at the University of Greenwich, and an Associate at the Centre for Global Political Economy at Sussex. Her PhD was on Ukraine’s post-1991 politico-economic transformation and the role of transnational and emerging domestic capital.
The paper will discuss the role and locus of capital in Ukraine’s post-2013 internal violent confrontations. It will outline the rise of the oligarchs’ economic and political power and the ways they have influenced Ukraine’s foreign relations. The paper will also explain how and why the oligarchs are linked to political factions and sustain fighting units in Ukraine’s civil war.
