As part of his role in the Education for Sustainability (EfS) team at the GSI , James wrote a case study about the role of EfS in performing arts education, focusing on drama studies. Using examples and interviews with both staff and students at Universities James questioned attitudes towards sustainability, finding that it is often misunderstood. The impact of this, says James, is detrimental, for those who work in the performing arts – both on stage and off – have the potential to have a profound impact over the cultural values and attitudes of an audience, as well as the carbon footprint of their company. EfS in drama education can then have far and wide reaching benefits – “so shines a good deed in a naughty world.”
