Chinese Industrialisation and its Implications to the Production and Operations Management Theories

Abstract
Yongjiang Shi would like to share his research work about Chinese manufacturing developments in IfM. The talk seeks to explore and explain what Chinese manufacturing developments in the last 35 years can inspire and challenge the established operations management discipline. It has been recognised that the classical industrialisation model and management theories have brought China not only to the largest manufacturing nation but also to the tipping point where its success can destroy its achievements and even the world. The new generation of operations management and manufacturing strategies have to learn from the Chinese manufacturing experiences and explore new type of strategic and system solutions. The talk is mainly based upon his co-authored EurOMA paper in the last year.
