Abstract
The acute stress response comprises a cascade of neurochemical changes, exerting intricately timed and widespread effects on neural excitability. I will argue that these changes enable comprehensive shifts in neuronal functioning at the level of large-scale networks. I will then show how these dynamic shifts can explain stress-related changes in cognitive functioning.
